I completed my USCIS biometrics: what happens next?
Completing biometrics is an important step, but it is not an approval and does not predict the date of a decision.

How USCIS uses biometrics
Depending on the request, USCIS may collect fingerprints, a photograph, and a signature to verify identity and conduct background and security checks. USCIS may also use biometrics to determine eligibility or produce immigration documents.
In some processes, fingerprints are sent to the FBI for a background check. If the print quality is insufficient, USCIS may issue another appointment. Always follow the notice you receive because requirements vary by form and case.
“Biometrics help confirm your identity; they do not decide the outcome of your case by themselves.”
What may happen next
After the appointment, the case may remain under review, receive a request for evidence, move to an interview, generate another communication, or reach a decision. Two people with similar filings may receive different updates because the sequence depends on the form, office, and facts of the record.
A message such as “Case Is Being Actively Reviewed” is a status update, not an approval or a promised timeline. Check each receipt number separately in Case Status Online or your USCIS account.
What you can control
Keep the appointment notice and any stamp or confirmation received, make sure USCIS has your current address, and save every later notice. Do not publish full receipt numbers or A-Numbers on social media.
- File the biometrics notice with the corresponding case.
- Check each application separately.
- Keep your address current with USCIS.
- Respond by the deadline if an RFE or other notice arrives.
- Consult an attorney if a legal or eligibility issue appears.
